As a web developer with experience in both frontend and WordPress development, I’ve worked on a variety of projects that blend creativity with technical problem-solving. One recent example is the Salt & Light Masquerade Ball Page, a custom addition to Salt & Light’s existing WordPress website. This project highlights my ability to extend WordPress functionality while meeting client-specific design requirements.

Project Overview

The goal of this project was to create an engaging event page for Salt & Light’s first annual event. This one being a Masquerade Ball, featuring:

• Current sponsors and sponsorship levels

• Links for purchasing tickets and becoming a sponsor

While the page had to align with the existing site’s branding, it also needed unique elements to make the event stand out visually and functionally.

Approach & Execution

This project required careful attention to detail and a mix of frontend customization and backend adjustments within WordPress.

1. Custom Accordion Styling:

   To meet the client’s design specifications, I wrote custom CSS classes and modified the accordion elements to achieve the desired style. This ensured that the sponsorship level sections were not only functional but visually aligned with the elegance of the event.

2. Custom Accordion Styling:

   One of the standout features of this page is the custom animated gradient background, which gives the event page a lively and modern feel. Rather than applying this globally, I took a targeted approach by modifying the theme’s PHP files. Using an ternary statement, I added a custom class for the gradient background only if a specific page slug was detected. This ensures that the animation is exclusive to the Masquerade Ball page and doesn’t affect other parts of the site.

3. WordPress Theme Customization:

   The animated gradient and accordion modifications required thoughtful integration with the existing theme. I carefully updated the theme’s PHP file to add these new features without disrupting the site’s overall functionality, showcasing my ability as a WordPress developer to extend and customize themes safely and efficiently.

Final Thoughts

The Salt & Light Masquerade Ball Page is an excellent example of how custom frontend development and targeted WordPress customization can work together to elevate a client’s event presence online. From writing custom code to integrating dynamic visuals, this project demonstrates my ability to craft tailored solutions that meet client needs and provide users with a seamless, engaging experience.
